All students have the right to feel safe in our schools. To help ensure our schools are inclusive and safe spaces, we have developed guidelines to support students with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions. SD83 SOGI Guidelines available here.
Everyone has a sexual orientation and gender identity. SOGI 1 2 3 helps educators make schools inclusive and safe for students of all sexual orientations and gender identities (SOGI). At a SOGI-inclusive school, students’ gender does not limit their interests and opportunities, and their sexual orientation and how they understand and express their gender are welcomed without discrimination.
Being SOGI-inclusive means:
√ Speaking about SOGI in a way that makes every student feel like they belong
√ Not limiting a person’s potential based on their biological sex and how they understand or express their gender
√ Welcoming everyone without discrimination, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity
