Enrolment up

Enrolment is up 20 full time equivalency (FTE) students over projections and 184 FTE over last year, reported Superintendent of Schools/CEO Peter Jory at the School District No. 83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap) Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the District Education Support Centre (DESC).

The district’s total enrolment currently sits at 6,351 FTE students.

He noted the district’s count, just to compare apples to apples, is done in full time equivalency (FTE) not head count, as this is the way the school district funding is determined by the ministry.

“Of course, our funding is based on actual enrolment on September 30,” he noted.  He added that often districts will see movement between now and the end of the month but he is hopeful the district’s upward enrolment trend will hold.

Official Trustee Mike McKay said the increase is indeed good news. “Every student who comes into the district over our projected numbers is extra good news because it means more funds coming in to resource the good work going on in our schools.”
