
Doris Rosemarie Farquhar (nee Wildauer) passed away on February 25, 2022 at the age of 91 years. She was born in Georgenburg East Prussia (Lithuania) on April 8, 1930. Like many families of the time, there were struggles but she always valued education.
In 1950, Rosemarie enrolled in the Registered Nursing Program in Berlin-Zelendorf EV Diakonie Seminar for four years. “Wanderlust” took her to Switzerland, England and finally Canada. Coming first to B.C, Rosemarie went to Montreal for eight years and then came back to B.C. She married Roy Farquhar in 1970 and she was welcomed to the Canadian family. Roy worked for the Deptment of Highways for 38 years in Hope, Spences Bridge and Mica Creek. In 1970 he married Rosemarie and they made their home in Revelstoke, Vernon and then Salmon Arm. Rosemarie worked at the Shuswap Lake General Hospital for 15 years. After retirement Roy and Rosemarie went on many good trips.
Criteria:
To a deserving student graduating from a SD83 school who has financial need. The recipient may undertake academic or technical studies or training in the trades or creative arts provided that the studies will lead to earning recognized certification.
2023 Award – four $1,000 scholarships (one to each high school)
