Take it easy in the smoke!

Take it easy in the smoke!

Due to the smoke, SD83 is recommending to its schools that any strenuous outdoor physical activities be postponed for the next day or two until the smokey air eases.

This means strenuous outdoor physical education, practices and games may be moved indoors or cancelled over the next several days. Also, some students, particularly those with underlying health conditions, may need to stay indoors at recess and lunch.

Many regions throughout the BC Interior are being impacted by wildfire smoke over the next 24-48 hours. Smoke is widespread through northeastern B.C., central B.C. and southern regions. Haze and smoke conditions will be variable within these regions. Smoke is causing or expected to cause poor air quality and reduced visibility.

As of 6 a.m. on May 18, the North Okanagan Air Quality Index sits at a rating of 9 or very high.
