There are several retirements, a director leaving, and some shifts to principal and vice-principalships for the upcoming school year!
Best wishes to resigning Director of Instruction – Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Carol-Ann Leidloff, who is leaving SD83 and joining SD22 (Vernon).
Carol-Ann joined the district in 2018 and has dedicated her work to serving students with diverse learning needs. The district appreciates her work and the commitment she has demonstrated during her time here and wishes her the best as she takes on the role of principal at Alexis Park Elementary in Vernon.
Congrats to principals Doug Cumming and Shane Corston who will be retiring this year. Corston is currently the principal at Carlin Elementary Middle School and Cummings is the principal at Ranchero Elementary. Their many years of service to students, their sense of humour and commitment to the profession will be missed!
Doug has been with the district for 22 years, starting with SD83 in January 2002 as vice-principal at M.V. Beattie before moving to SMS in 2005. His first principalship was at Falkland in 2014, followed by M.V. Beattie and then his current role as principal at Ranchero. Shane, who has been with the district for 16 years, started with the district as principal of Shuswap Middle School in August 2007. He moved to Carlin Elementary Middle in 2014.
Principal and vice-principal placements for the upcoming school year have also been announced. Val Edgell, currently a district principal, will be the new principal at Armstrong Elementary.
Current principal at AES, Corrinne Langston, will be the new principal at Ranchero Elementary, as Doug Cumming retires.
Heather Gobbett and Joel Menzies will be switching schools, with Gobbett moving to Bastion and Menzies to South Broadview.
Carla Schneider will move from Parkview Elementary to Carlin Elementary Middle, replacing retiring principal Shane Corston. She will be joined by Morgen MacDonald, the current vice principal at M.V. Beattie. Replacing MacDonald will be new vice-principal Laura Tomlinson, who is currently a teacher at North Canoe Elementary.
Jared King will be the new principal at Parkview Elementary, moving from South Canoe. Moving to South Canoe will be Sandra Major, who currently is the vice principal at Carlin.
There are also some changes with vice principals.
Current vice-principal at Salmon Arm Secondary (Sullivan) Noah Ralston is resigning and will be going back to the classroom. Rhys Waters will be moving from Jackson to vice-principal at Sullivan. Patti Lemaire will be moving from vice-principal at Shuswap Middle School to Jackson and Lara Matthews will be the vice principal at SMS.
Education Outreach is still to be determined.
The changes take effect as of August 1, 2023.
