Invited to present at Farm to School conference

Congrats to Nimmi Erasmus and the Salmon Arm Secondary Culinary Arts program for being invited to present at the first ever Farm to School B.C.-wide conference being held at the University of B.C. on May 17-19.

The SAS culinary program has been invited to present there, and Red Seal Chef and program teacher Nimmi Erasmus said although she is nervous to speak to a crowd that large, she is very proud of the program’s accomplishment and the recognition.

Expanding horizons through culinary arts – April 2021

Erasmus’ presentation is called The Culinary Table and is scheduled for May 18. She will be discussing how Farm-To-Table has changed the way people think about food and how it has impacted global food concepts. “Over the last few years high schools across B.C. have modified the way their cafeteria and food programs function. Farm-to-school has been an intricate contributor to this. I am grateful for the many chefs, educators, farmers, professionals, and administrations who have worked together to ensure healthy eating is promoted for our young people. It is because of people like you that we as chef educators can promote culinary arts with a new perspective.”

Erasmus will share how farm-to-school, as well as farm-to-table, should be used and how this has been successfully incorporated this into the program at SAS Secondary Sullivan in Salmon Arm. “I will also briefly discuss how in turn our students have been able to give back to society as well as how I have incorporated this into everyday teaching practices.”
