Kindy registration fun!

There were smiling faces, painted faces, food and fun at the Sorrento Elementary Kindergarten Registration Fair on Jan 17th.

Allison de Boer, District Vice-Principal Early Learning, comments it was wonderful to meet the families and welcome the new youngsters who were registering for Kindergarten in September 2023. “We had pizza, free books, and booths by community service providers, including North & South Shuswap Community Resource Association, Okanagan Regional Library, Shuswap Children’s Association, Literacy Alliance of the Shuswap Society, Interior Health Dental and Public Health Nurse in attendance.”

She added they were very grateful to welcome Dustin Tomma, Little Shuswap Lake Band Youth Leader, who, with his daughter, sang an honour song, which was a highlight of the day!  She said there were about 25 families in attendance, which surpassed expectations, and she thinks they appreciated the opportunity to connect with the school, community, and engage in some early learning fun during registration.

She explained the Kindergarten Fair is part of the ministry initiative, Strengthening Early Years to Kindergarten Transitions, which the Sorrento Early Learning community is involved with this year.  “This is just one example of one of the supportive Early Learning events and initiatives that will be taking place throughout the year.  Thank you to all who came out!”

de Boer also sent a special thank you to the Grade 5 students from Sorrento Elementary who showed off their artistic talents painting the faces of the youngsters!
