There was music, cake and an audience on hand for the swearing in of the new Board of Education of School District No. 83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap) on Monday, Nov. 7 at the District Education Support Centre (DESC). Individually, each of the five trustees took the Oath of Office presided by His Honour Judge George Leven.
After completing the swearing in, the trustees got down to business and elected incumbents Marianne VanBuskirk as chairperson and Amanda Krebs as vice-chairperson. Returning trustee Tennile Lachmuth will continue as B.C. School Trustees’ Association provincial council representative and newcomer Corryn Grayston will be the alternate.
Incoming trustee Brent Gennings will be the trustee representative on the B.C. Public Sector Employers’ Association (BCPSEA) and Lachmuth will be the alternate.
The Board’s first regular meeting will be on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. at the DESC. This is a public meeting and will also be livestreamed.
