Books and games for evacuees!

Are you evacuated from the Merritt or Princeton areas?

Several classes of students from SD83 have donated like-new books, games, puzzles and stuffies which are available free to any evacuee who would like them! Please drop in and meet Barb, a former Merritt resident and our receptionist, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the District Education Support Centre, located at 341 Shuswap St., in Salmon Arm.

District Principal Val Edgell, who spent some years as an educator in Merritt, thanks the classes at Shuswap Middle School for organizing the donations. “We want to help in any way we can. Hopefully this will give the kids some things to do while they are displaced from home.”

Edgell also mentioned that Laureen Mayer, a teacher at SMS, is organizing a gingerbread house making and decorating afternoon for evacuees. This will also be held at the DESC on Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 3 p.m. If possible if you are planning on attending please alert Edgell by texting 250 804-5733 to ensure there is enough supplies. If you are unable to message please attend anyways!

Just a reminder, if they so wish, parents are welcome to sign their children up to attend school in SD83 while they are evacuated. Contact Assistant Superintendent Ryan Brennan at 250 832-2157 or hr@sd83.bc.ca for further details.
