New secretary treasurer

The Board of Education of School District No. 83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap) is pleased to announce that Dale Culler has been appointed as Secretary Treasurer/Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective September 18, 2021.

With 14 years administrative experience in the public sector, a student-centred focus, and a commitment to lifelong learning, Culler currently serves as the Secretary Treasurer in School District No. 6 (Rocky Mountain) in Invermere. He brings a wide variety of skills and experiences to his new role, such as serving as the Director of Corporate Services/CFO for the Town of Taber.

“In selecting Mr. Culler as our Secretary Treasurer, our Board of Education recognized his ability to contribute positively to SD83. As an experienced and skilled secretary treasurer, his financial acumen and a student first approach will greatly benefit our district,” comments Board Chairperson Amanda Krebs. “His strengths include financial reporting and analysis, which included receiving the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Financial Officers Association while serving as DCS/CFO for the Town of Taber.”

Culler is looking forward to learning more about the needs of all students in the district and how his experiences can continue to ensure that all students can continuously improve their educational outcomes. He adds that in accepting this appointment he is looking forward to building relationships with staff, students, families, and the community members within School District 83. He considers himself to be a lifelong learner, always seeking to learn from others, developing and implementing systems that continually improve and move the organization forward. As Secretary Treasurer, he stated that he will always be student focused and that resource allocation will be aligned to the Board’s strategic plan ensuring that all students’ education experience is equitable across the district.

He holds a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) designation, a Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc) from the University of Saskatchewan along with a Bachelor of Management – Major in Advanced Accounting (University of Lethbridge), and a Business Administration Diploma in Accounting (Lethbridge Community College).

Culler and his wife, Kim are looking forward to the move, as Kim pursues her career as a vice-principal in the Vernon School District. Dale and Kim have two grown children, Taylor and Austin. Taylor is a Registered Interior Designer and lives in Vancouver with her husband Vince. Austin is a classically trained guitarist and is completing his Masters of Music degree at the University of Lethbridge.

The entire Board once again extends its sincere thanks to the consultants, staff, administrators, and partners who were invaluable to the extensive recruitment process, including building the candidate profile and participating in interviews. Those contributions were very valuable and the Board wishes to thank each participant for their time and thoughtful input.
