The District Learning Plan was received by the Board of Education of School District No. 83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap) at its meeting on Tuesday.
SD83 Director of Instruction Carol-Ann Leidloff explained to trustees that the Ministry of Education requires every district to create a Framework for Enhancing Student Learning (FESL). SD83’s FESL is located on the district website and defines district context, current district data, achievement goals, and the key strategies/structures that support student learning in SD83. The District Learning Plan creates alignment between the B.C. Education Plan, the Ministry’s Vision of an Educated Citizen, various policies (Ministry of Education, Indigenous Education and Inclusive Education), and the district’s Strategic Plan.
“The plan integrates the work of our many departments (Early Learning, Numeracy, Career Education, Indigenous Education, Inclusive Education, International Education) and allows us to strategically align our professional learning and in-service initiatives with the district and provincial vision,” she added.
Superintendent of Schools/CEO Peter Jory commented the finished plan is a “proud moment”. “Full credit to Carol-Ann and our district principals. There is a lot of good, thoughtful, earnest work here. As our staff, our work, and understanding has evolved we are much clearer on what we do and what we need to do.”
Trustees commented that not only is it a good road map for learning, it was also helpful for budget planning.
