Process announced to hire new Superintendent and Secretary-Treasurer

The Board of Education of School District No.83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap) has established a recruitment and selection process for the important responsibility of selecting a new Superintendent of Schools/CEO and Secretary-Treasurer for SD83. The process will actively engage staff and partners.

It was previously announced that current Superintendent of Schools/CEO Peter Jory is leaving the district as he accepted a similar position with School District No. 69 (Qualicum), while Secretary-Treasurer Alanna Cameron is leaving the district as she accepted a position with School District No. 87 (Stikine).

The Board has engaged support from Anne Cooper, former Superintendent of School District No. 19 (Revelstoke) to help guide the Board, drawing on her extensive experience in school district leadership, recruitment, and Board governance. Anne will be assisted by Joan Axford, former Secretary-Treasurer and Executive Director of B.C. Association of School Business Officials (BCASBO), who will provide advice on technical matters related to the skills required to be successful in the role of secretary-treasurer.

Working with the consultants, the Board has established a recruitment plan that features significant input from staff and partners to assist in the development of a candidate profile. Anne and Joan will be seeking input from staff and educational partners during the period of April 12 – 15, 2021.

After discussions with staff and educational partners, Anne and Joan will meet with the Board to finalize the profiles and advertisements for both positions. Once the candidate profiles have been completed, a thorough advertising and recruitment process will be undertaken to identify strong candidates that meet the district’s requirements.

The recruitment plan also includes opportunities for employee groups and other partners to engage with the candidates as part of a comprehensive selection process.

It is the Board’s hope that, barring any unforeseen delays, the successful candidates will be announced in June with anticipated start dates as soon as possible thereafter.
