The Board of Education School District No. 83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap) is seeking input on a proposed school district calendar for the 2021-22 school year.
At the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 16, trustees approved a draft calendar for the upcoming school year which is now being circulated for public input before being finalized.
Until March 8th, stakeholders can provide input via email (please send to email@example.com) or via this survey. Feedback will be gathered, any changes necessary will be made, and then it will go back to the Board of Trustees on March 9th for discussion and possible approval.
The draft shows the school year beginning on Tuesday, September 7 with the final day of school for students on Thursday, June 23. Because of these bookends, this calendar year will be a little shorter than typical, so the school day will be extended by six minutes as it was this year, with an additional two minutes needed to offset the placement of the New Year’s Day statutory holiday.
This draft calendar places holidays in the following manner: Winter Break is set for December 20 to January 3. Spring Break is planned for March 21 to April 1. In-service days are tentatively set for September 20th, October 22, November 12th, February 18th, March 11th and May 2nd. January 28th will be a semester turnaround day for secondary schools, with middle and elementary schools still in session.
*Please be aware the number of non-instructional days in a school year are determined provincially through negotiation between the Ministry of Education and the British Columbia Teachers’ Union. The placement of these days is determined at the local level through a calendar consultation process with School District stakeholders.
