New Requirements for Volunteer Drivers

School District No. 83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap) will be adding new requirements for volunteer drivers starting in September of 2019. These requirements, already in place for employees, will add a necessary measure of safety and security to our students as they travel in private vehicles to school sanctioned events, while bringing our practice in line with other school districts around the province.

In addition to providing either a criminal record check or police information check current within three years as introduced last year, drivers will also be required to provide copies of their driver’s license, driver’s abstract, vehicle registration, and insurance, all current to within one year. As well, a Driver Information Form will need to be completed for each return trip, which will include a roster of passengers.

School staff will be ready to support volunteer drivers with the collection and organization of these documents in the school office. We thank you in advance for your patience and support as we integrate these new expectations in each of our schools across the School District.
