Changes have been announced in various principal and vice-principalships in School District No. 83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap) by Superintendent of Schools/CEO Peter Jory.
“I’d like to offer my congratulations to all the successful candidate who will taking on new leadership roles for September and throughout the year,” added Jory. Steven Drapala will be transitioning from his current role as vice principal, to principal of Salmon Arm Secondary – Jackson campus (start date to be determined). Joining him as vice-principal will be Rhys Waters, who is currently a temporary vice-principal of A.L. Fortune Secondary. Deanna Brennan will be continuing on in her current appointment as vice principal of Salmon Arm Secondary – Sullivan campus. Laura Jegues will move from her current placement as temporary vice principal of Shuswap Middle School, to vice principal of Bastion Elementary effective next school year. Newcomer Spencer Ward, who has been teaching and leading in various schools in the Vernon and Richmond school districts, has joined SD83 and will be the vice principal of Highland Park Elementary School effective August 2019.
Jory added that another vice-principal pool has also been established so that as positions become available, the district has qualified candidates ready to step in. These include: Megan Weir, who is currently teaching at Shuswap Middle School and is a member of the Instructional Leadership team; Kris Hryniw, who has held various teaching positions in BC and Alberta and is currently teaching at Salmon Arm Secondary – Jackson; Sandra Major, who is currently teaching at Ranchero Elementary school and is a member of the Instructional Leadership team; Duncan Hazlewood, who joined our district in October 2018 from Abbotsford and is currently teaching at Shuswap Middle school; and, Noah Ralston, who has held various teaching positions within our district and is currently teaching at Silver Creek Elementary School.
