Local teachers and students extend a sincere thank you to SASCU for a grant of $4,700 directed to the Elementary School Pirate Loppet and its Skis For Schools program.
Pooled with the $2,800 raised at the 2019 Pirate Loppet, this grant provided a $7,500 ski equipment fund that was divided between Grindrod, Ranchero, Salmon Arm West and South Canoe schools.
Each year, all funds raised from the Pirate Loppet are awarded to one or more schools to build their cross country ski equipment inventory. The additional grant from SASCU boosted the fund so that four schools could be targeted this year.
Over the past 9 years, 14 district schools have shared $31,200 raised by this event and through the School Ski Program hundreds of students have been introduced to cross country skiing and the beauty of the Larch Hills.
As always, thanks to the Larch Hills Nordic Society for their great support of this opportunity for our students.
