Under the School Act, a new school, or in South Canoe’s case a re-opened school, must request Board approval to form a parent advisory council.

At Tuesday’s  School District No. 83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap) Board of Education meeting a group of parents, along with Principal Isabelle Gervais, presented a letter to Official Trustee Mike McKay requesting a PAC be formed at South Canoe.

Before approving the request, McKay talked about how heartwarming it was for not only the school district but for students, parents and the community to not only be re-opening the school but also establishing the outdoor learning program.

“Thank you for everyone who has put in time and effort to make this happen. This is a real success story.”
