Increased construction costs have forced the school district to adjust its annual facilities plan.
Each year school districts receive an Annual Facilities Grant (AFG) from the Ministry of Education. This grant is intended to fund annual facility projects required to maintain our schools and facilities.
The grant is received annually, and districts submit an AFG spending plan first to the Board for approval, and then to the Ministry. The Annual Facilities Grant spending plan was approved by Official Trustee in May 2018.
Since then, due to increased construction costs, the district is experiencing additional cost pressures on many Annual Facilities Grant and School Enhancement Program projects. This has required deferral of some projects that were previously approved, including some re-roofing and painting projects, and the addition of several projects which needed to be completed.
The largest of these was the additional $180,000 required to complete the geothermal upgrade at Eagle River Secondary.
