Registering for school?

A school locator tool can be found by clicking here (Will open in new window)

Do you have a child who will be starting kindergarten? Are you new to the district and wondering how to register your child? If so, we wish you a warm welcome to School District No. 83 and refer you to the registration information below:

Kindergarten registration

A new practice has been established in our district with kindergarten registration opening each year on the second Monday after September 30 of the year your child is four years old. This new date allows for more equitable access and better planning.

If you have missed the date, please register as soon as possible at your neighbourhood school. Date and time of registration will be recorded and that will be used to determine placement IF catchment area schools are full.

If you are not sure which school your child will attend or wonder about whether your area is serviced by a bus, please contact our Operations department (250 832-9415) or click on this link and follow the online prompts.

French Immersion Registration

If you are interested in registering your child for early French Immersion (Kindergarten & Grade 1) there are still a few spots open for 2018.

For those interested in late French Immersion (Grade 6)  an information meeting, again with possible registration depending on numbers, will be held on March 6 at 6 p.m. at Shuswap Middle School.

Questions or concerns about French Immersion may be directed to Isabelle Gervais at (250)-832-3741.

Registration September through June

Parents new to our district are asked to register their child(ren) at their neighbourhood school. For verification of your catchment area school, please contact our Operations Department at (250) 832-9415 or check the School Locator.

Documentation to be Presented at Time of Registration

In order to meet Ministry of Education requirements, the school district must have documentation for all students entering K-12. Documentation is:

  • Appropriate proof of citizenship or status in Canada for both students and parents, and appropriate proof of age for students. Examples are: original birth certificate, passport, baptismal certificate, immigration or refugee documentation
  • Appropriate proof of residence (purchase / rental agreement, current year property tax receipt, current month rental receipt showing address, or letter from landlord)
  • Most recent report card from previous school, if available

For students entering Kindergarten:

As above, plus your child’s immunization record, Care Card, medical and emergency contact information would be greatly appreciated.
